Thank you writing this. I’m a young balloon builder who flew at this recent EBAA meetup in May. Some of the most memorable flights. I’m sure if you reach out to the EBAA people we can help preserve the museum and airport.

Thank you David for recapturing the spirit of Brian for us in this piece. A beautiful tribute to such an amazing man. We first met Brian in the early 1990s at Loch Lyme Lodge. As Jay Kelly just wrote: 'the distinctive flame thruster', was heard overhead and the excitement began. The Barker family knew exactly what to do. Running down to the pond from the main house of the lodge. they rallied us, their guests, to aide the passengers and pilot upon landing. Brian belted out instructions and we all fell into place. Fortunately we do have this event captured in pictures. What fun Brian created for all of us! He is unforgettable. The diner and airport/museum will honor his legacy well. Please let us know how to help. J&J Hansen

Such a beautiful piece. Brian was a neighbor and longtime family friend. His loss leaves us all in grief. Many in the community would also like to support any effort to maintain the airport and museum, honoring his legacy. Please let us know how we can help. Thank you again for this wonderful tribute. He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of person.

Thank-you for writing such a moving piece Dave. We will miss Brian and his numerous landings in the fields of Loch Lyme Lodge. There is nothing like hearing that distinctive flame thruster and running out to see a big beautiful balloon hanging majestically over Post Pond. This generous man would often take our guests up for a quick look around before packing up after a landing.

RIP Brian.

Beautiful piece…having visited the museum I’d like to support any effort to maintain it for future generations. In my opinion Brian Boland’s death is a great loss as we need people of courage, character and vision right now in our wounded country.
